November 2011 Action Item

A variety of human rights and Christian organizations, such as Samaritan's Purse and African Inland Mission, have been observing the systematic oppression of the people of South Kordofan, particularly ethnic Nubans, by the Sudanese government of Omar al-Bashir. Their persecution has included everything from mass arrests and arbitrary detentions to bombing campaigns on refugee camps. One of the individuals who has come under attack by the Sudanese government is Bushra Gamar Hussein Rahma, an X-ray technician and founder of the Human Rights and Development Organization (HUDO) in Southern Kordofan, Sudan, where he is from. This human rights activist was detained without charges in June, a judge ordered his release on August 14, but he was immediately re-arrested and has been held in Kober Prison, Khartoum; he has not been charged and has been denied access to a lawyer. He is in poor health and remains at risk of torture or other ill-treatment. He has confirmed health conditions, including heart disease, which have been exacerbated by hunger strikes he embarked on in September and October, when the Sudanese government failed to make good on their promise to release him by October 9.

Christian Advocacy Now is joining with Amnesty International to call for the immediate and unconditional release of Bushra Gamar Hussein Rahma. Join us by writing:
