Please feel free to adapt the following letter to reflect your personal point of view—however, please always remain respectful, even as you disagree with this decision.
Dear President Zardari:
I am
writing to express my deep concern about the situation of Asia Bibi,
a 37-year-old woman from the village of Ittanwali, who was sentenced
to death on November 7, 2010 blasphemy due to her Christian faith. I
was astounded by this extreme and unjust verdict.
Mrs. Bibi is a peaceable, loyal citizen, who has done nothing wrong apart from expressing her religious beliefs, which is a basic human right, protected under the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights. On this basis, I am respectfully requesting that you to intervene on behalf of Asia Bibi and secure her immediate and unconditional release.
Please restore this wife and mother to her husband and two young daughters, who are suffering as well while she is being unfairly detained. To rob them permanently of wife and mother would be an extremely grievous injustice.
I would respectfully ask that you
fulfill the responsibility and privilege of your position and insure
the rights and safety of Mrs. Asia Bibi and others like her are
protected. I would also urge your government to do all in your power
to promote a society where individuals can peacefully express their
thoughts and beliefs without fear of harm or retaliation from their
government or fellow citizens. This is fundamental for the
establishment and promotion of a just and civil society.
Yours
respectfully,
