October 2015 Action Item

We are encouraged and give thanks that one of four cases brought against British worker rights researcher, Andy Hall, by Thailand's Natural Fruit Company was dismissed in September 2015. However, the other criminal and civil cases are scheduled to begin on 15 October 2015. Hall, who reported about grave abuses and slave-like conditions at this international pineapple supplier could face 7 years in prison and more than $10 million damages to Natural Fruit. We join with Walkfree and others around the world to call on Thai courts to act with justice and integrity and dismiss all these outrageous charges against Andy Hall.

Attorney General Pongniwat Yuthapanboripan

Salutation: Your Honorable Pongniwat Yuthapanboripan

Suggested points:

--Express your deep concern about the charges brought by Natural Fruit against human rights activist Andy Hall.

--Explain how stunned you are that instead of addressing allegations of worker abuse and slavery-like practices in their factory, Natural Fruit has tried to silence and intimidate him.

--Express that it is vital to a just and civil society that workers and labor rights advocates in Thailand must be able to speak out freely about abuse or unsafe working conditions. This case sends a dangerous message that undermines this right.

--Urge the attorney general to do everything in his power to ensure these charges are dropped against Mr. Hall for allegations of computer crime and criminal defamation will begin.
