October 2018 Action Item

Cao San-Qiang (John Cao) has been working as a missionary in China for many years, and most recently serving the poor of Myanmar on the Chinese border for three years, with the knowledge of the Chinese government. In that time, he has established schools and initiated other humanitarian work for both Chinese and Myanmar citizens, with no objections from Chinese officials. Yet, in March 2017, he was suddenly arrested for “illegal border crossings,” and sentenced first to one year in prison, and then the sentence was increased to seven years. Pastor Cao is married to an American, attended seminary in the US, and lived in North Carolina for years before feeling called to return to China to work as a missionary there. Those with knowledge of the case believe that the arrest and severe sentence of Pastor Cao is related to the current Chinese government’s crackdown on the house church movement. Pray for Pastor Cao, his wife, Jamie Powell, and their sons, Benjamin and Amos—and write a note to encourage him today!
