October 2013 Action Item


The end of September was witness to at least 3 bomb attacks in Pakistan related to rising tensions and , one of which targeted a church in Peshawar, killing at least 85 people. Indeed, the climate in Pakistan toward Christians and other minorities has been steadily worsening. It is time to call on the government of Pakistan again to act with integrity and justice, to bring perpetrators to justice, and to restore Asia Bibi to her family.

Suggested points:

  • Express your concern and dismay at the increasing violence in Pakistan, which consistently targets Christians. Indicate that it is clear that the situation is getting worse and only does harm to entire population of Pakistan and to Pakistan's standing in the international.
  • Urge that Pakistan's government must act swiftly and effectively to apprehend and punish those who perpetrate these crimes. Also, their government must act to change the culture of violence and discrimination, and that changing their harsh blasphemy laws would be an important start.
  • Finally, indicate that you have not forgotten the plight of Asia Bibi, imprisoned since 2009 for her Christian faith, and call for her immediate and unconditional release.
