January 2015 Action Item

Biram Dah Abeid was born into a family of slaves in Mauritania, but was released as a young child. Although slavery was outlawed in Mauritania in 2007, it is still practiced and is more prevalent there than anywhere else in the world. Biram has become an effective anti-slavery activist and was recently arrested during a peaceful anti-slavery demonstration. He and other activists were tortured and are now imprisoned. Call on officials to release these peaceful protestors and to immediately abolish all practiced slavery.
