Join Amnesty International and thousands around the globe calling for the release of Majid Tavakkoli:

Majid Tavakkoli is a member of the Islamic Students' Association at Amir Kabir University. On 7 December 2009 Tavakkoli made a speech at one of the nationwide student demonstrations that day to protest the disputed presidential election of June 2009.

According to Amnesty International, his lawyer was not permitted to attend his trial, which took place in January 2010. Majid Tavakkoli was subsequently sentenced to eight and a half years in jail for insulting officials, spreading propaganda against the state and gathering and colluding with intent to harm state security. He is a prisoner of conscience.

Call for the immediate and unconditional release of Majid Tavakkoli

Request that Majid Tavakkoli have access to adequate legal counsel and medical care, and ask that a prompt and impartial investigation into the reports that he was beaten during his arrest be conducted

Urge that greater freedom of expression and dissent be allowed within Iran.
