Action February 2017

PRAYER IS ACTION!

Yuri packs ordeal began in April 2015 when he mistakenly left his cell phone in the high school classroom where he is a teacher and dean. Most likely a student used this phone to make a prank call to Kazakhstan emergency services. Despite an expert witness determining that the phone message to the emergency services did not match Yuri's voice, he was charged with making a bomb threat and sentenced to two years in prison. Beyond his voice not matching that of the recording, other details—including the caller referencing 10 years in prison and anger with the police—did not match with Yuri's life and experience. During his trial he received great support from his students and his local pastor, as well as news agencies. However his involvement in Christian activities have made him a target for retaliation by the Kazakhstan government.
