February 2014 Action Item

As Alim Yimit, an agricultural worker in northern China and an ethnic Uyghur minority, continues to languish in prison, let's make sure he knows he is not forgotten. Imprisoned in 2009 and serving a 15-year sentence for “anti-state activities,” he is most definitely imprisoned for his Christian faith and conversion from Islam. His years in prison have taken their toll already. Alim entered prison robust and in good health, and recent reports indicate he is struggling with illness. Recently denied even visits from his wife, Alim undoubtedly could use some encouragement! Send him a note today!

Suggested points:

  • Indicate you are aware that Alimujiang Yimiti is imprisoned in his jurisdiction and that you are very concerned for his well-being.
  • Express your understanding that Alim, an agricultural worker, is not a threat to the state or anyone else, but rather is being held because of his Christian faith.
  • Because this is illegal according to the Chinese constitution and universally unjust and inhumane, respectfully call for the immediate release of Alimujiang Yimiti.
