International Christian Concern reports the following about imprisoned believer Trần Văn Bang: Trần Văn Bang is currently imprisoned at the Bo La Prison Camp in Vietnam. In May 2023, he was sentenced to 8 years imprisonment. He has been arrested several times for various activities as he has fought to end religious persecution, return his ancestors’ land which was invaded by communists, and release all ethnic minority political prisoners. After facing allegations of propaganda against the State in March 2023, Bang wrote, “If God has chosen me to be the next person to bear the cross to protect truth and righteousness, then I will obey God’s will.” Bang was arrested under Article 117 of the Vietnamese penal code which outlaws “making, storing, disseminating or propagandizing information, materials, and products that aim to oppose the State of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.” Bang has been an outspoken human rights and democracy activist in the last decade, particularly through anti-China protests. Bang has frequently been placed under house arrest in the past several years in efforts tobar him from participating in human rights related or politically charged events.
